PICU Services

Continuous monitoring of heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, oxygen level and other variables

PICU nurses care for one or two patients to provide close assessment

Daily rounds that include the entire PICU team to discuss patient progress, goals, etc.

Family-centered environment that encourages families to be involved in their child’s hospital care

The PICU Team Using child-specific and age-appropriate equipment and technology, a highly trained staff provides care that is patient-focused and family-centered. The team members include:

Two pediatric intensivists (physicians who specialize in the care of critically ill children)

Specially-trained PICU nurses and respiratory therapists

Clinical pharmacists

Occupational and physical therapists

Nutritionists

Care coordinators and social workers

Because of the close proximity to the general pediatric unit, when a child no longer requires intensive care, the transfer process is simplified. Likewise, if a pediatric patient’s condition worsens, the PICU is only steps away.
